Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens residents can now use rideshare service for the cost of a bus ride

Community Transit launches affordable, convenient Zip Shuttle pilot

Snohomish County, Wash. – With just a click on a mobile app or a phone call, people in three new cities can now ride Zip Shuttle to run an errand, visit the doctor, grocery shop, or connect to other transit modes.

Community Transit today launched an expansion of its flexible, on-demand rideshare service for residents in Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens. With Zip Shuttle, you can request pick up or drop off at any location within a specified zone for the same cost as bus fare – $2.50 for adults or less for eligible reduced fare riders. Kids 18 and under ride free. The Zip pilot program will run for 12-18 months.

“Zip Shuttle is an example of how we can rethink public transit and find creative ways to meet our communities’ needs,” said Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz. “It’s a great option for people who want to get around their community with affordable door-to-door service. But Zip can also help you get out of your community by connecting you with buses that bring you to Link light rail so you can travel to downtown Seattle and beyond.”

How to ride Zip Shuttle

To get started, download the Zip Shuttle app from the App Store or Google Play to book a ride, or book by calling (425) 521-5600 or toll-free 833-DIAL-ZIP (342-5947). Pay with an ORCA card, credit/debit card, or cash (exact change is required). When you pay with an ORCA card, your fare value transfers with you on any transit connection for two hours.

Zip Shuttle users in the Alderwood area of Lynnwood will continue to use a separate mobile app for the next few months.

Learn more about Zip

Zip Shuttle is ideal for people who don’t have a car or want to leave a car behind so they can travel further on transit. Zip is safe and accessible for people who ride with mobility devices, like wheelchairs and walkers. The vehicles are outfitted with ramps and drivers are trained to assist riders of all abilities. Zip also offers bike racks and child car seats for use while aboard the service.

Community Transit partnered closely with residents in Arlington, Darrington, and Lake Stevens to design the service and tailor it to each community. In Darrington, the Zip service area extends onto the Sauk-Siuattle reservation in Skagit County. During the pilot project, Community Transit will gather feedback to further improve the service for residents in each community.
