Take the Week Without Driving challenge

Community Transit’s accessible service options makes transit available to all
A man in a red flannel walks next to a bus. Behind him are three people waiting to get on the bus.

People take transit for many reasons—to avoid driving in traffic, to do our part to be more sustainable, or just because it’s convenient to let someone else do the driving. According to the Week Without Driving website, nearly a third of people living in the United States rely on transit because they have no other way to get where they need to be.

Week Without Driving challenges those who drive to ditch their personal ride from Sept. 30-Oct. 6 to take transit and learn firsthand about the barriers and challenges that nondrivers face. With this experience, drivers can work with nondrivers to create more accessible communities for all.

Community Transit’s fleet and services are designed to enhance the transportation options for all riders we serve. Here are some of the accessibility features and options available to our riders.

On every bus

  • Low floors and a “kneeling” feature make boarding the bus easier.
  • Wheelchair lifts or ramps for people with mobility devices.

Our drivers

  • Our drivers are trained to assist people in boarding and securing their mobility device and will announce any specific stop along a route if asked by a rider.

Easy payment

At our Swift stations and transit centers

  • All transit centers and Swift stations are ADA accessible.
  • All park & ride locations have designated ADA parking spots.

Signs and announcements

  • Overhead digital signs display the next stop. At stops served by more than one route, announcements identify the route name or number as buses arrive.
  • Major transfer points, intersections, and destination points are announced along routes.
