Following Link light rail’s arrival in Snohomish County on Aug. 30, Community Transit will replace its downtown Seattle (400s) and Northgate (800s) routes with new express bus routes (900s). The 900s are mostly peak-hour express buses that will connect various communities to light rail.*
One commuter route will remain – Route 424. That route serving Snohomish and Monroe does not travel on I-5 but travels to Seattle via Hwy 522, I-405, and Hwy 520. It will remain in operation until East Link reaches Seattle.
*Routes 905 and 909 are all-day service and Route 907 travels to Seaway Transit Center, not light rail.
Starting Sept. 16, riders will be able take an express route to connect to light rail at the Lynnwood City Center Station (formerly Lynnwood Transit Center) or Mountlake Terrace Station (formerly Mountlake Terrace Transit Center) to complete their journey to Northgate, downtown Seattle, or anywhere the light rail Link 1 Line travels.
While riders can take any bus route that connects to light rail, express routes have limited stops with service running between key residential areas and major transit hubs, providing faster travel times. Fares will be the same as all other local service, $2.50 for adults, $1.25 for discounted riders, and free for youth 18 and under. Combined with Sound Transit’s new $3 flat fare for light rail, a bus-to-rail trip to Seattle using an ORCA card will be $3!
