Community Transit is expanding its most popular service, the Swift bus rapid transit (BRT) network, to dramatically improve transit in Everett, Marysville, and Arlington. The community is invited to give input on the first phase of the scoping study for the Swift Gold Line. The public comment period runs through Aug. 7.
The Swift Gold Line will bring fast, frequent and reliable service to the northern part of Snohomish County as continued population growth increases the demand for expanded travel options. It will offer shorter wait times between buses, faster and more reliable service, and connections to traffic-free Link light rail.
“We are focusing on bringing our flagship service to some of the most booming areas of Snohomish County and indeed in the country,” said Ric Ilgenfritz, Community Transit CEO. “Marysville’s comprehensive plan calculations anticipate the city will grow by 35% over the next 20 years, while Arlington’s plan anticipates nearly 75% growth. By expanding access to fast, easy and reliable transportation we will keep our communities and our economy moving.”
With the Swift Gold Line, people will have access to regional and local destinations, like downtown Everett, Everett Community College, downtown Marysville, and the Cascade Industrial Center in Marysville and Arlington. It will also tie into the existing Swift network in south Snohomish County, as well as the regional Sounder commuter rail service and later, Link light rail service at Everett Station, offering an efficient and competitive alternative to driving.
People can comment in a variety of ways:
Following the Scoping Study Phase, Community Transit will select a preferred route and station locations. Ongoing planning work and public input will shape the project as it moves into the design phase and environmental review process. Swift Gold Line service is expected to start in 2029.
