Lunar New Year: Hop transit to these events that celebrate The Year of the Rabbit

Take transit to these local and regional Lunar New Year events.

A table is set to celebrate Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is Sunday, Jan. 22, a celebration of spring's arrival and the new year in many countries of East Asia. The holiday marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar, which is the calendar traditionally used in many countries, including China, Vietnam, Singapore, and South Korea. Often, the new year is marked with fireworks, parades, and the dance of lion and dragon.

Each year in the Lunar calendar is represented by one of the 12 zodiac animals and one of five elements. The 12 zodiac animals are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. The five elements are earth, water, fire, wood, and metal.

This year is the year of the Water Rabbit. According to Chinese astrology, the rabbit represents peaceful and patient energy, encouraging people to approach challenges and opportunities calmly and rationally. In addition, the water element brings intuition and inner peace.
