About Seattle

Seattle is the largest city in both the state of Washington and the Pacific Northwest region of North America. It is home to many regional destinations. The Seattle metropolitan area's population is 4.02 million, making it the 15th-largest in the United States.

King County Metro provides frequent bus service within the city and surrounding county, as well as the South Lake Union Streetcar line and the First Hill Streetcar line. Sound Transit provides an express bus service within the metropolitan area, two Sounder commuter rail lines between the suburbs and downtown, and its 1 Line light rail line between the University of Washington and Angle Lake. Further Link light rail extensions are planned to reach Lynnwood to the north, Federal Way to the south, and Bellevue and Redmond to the east by 2024.

Washington State Ferries, which manages the largest network of ferries in the United States and third largest in the world, connects Seattle to Bainbridge and Vashon Islands in Puget Sound and to Bremerton and Southworth on the Kitsap Peninsula. King Street Station in Pioneer Square serves Amtrak intercity trains and Sounder commuter trains, and is located adjacent to the International District/Chinatown light rail station. Community Transit provides several commuter bus routes to Seattle from its service area as well as DART paratransit service and Vanpool to riders venturing to Seattle from our service area.

Route 116 is being replaced with new routes March 30

How to find your new route and learn about the upcoming changes

Big changes are coming to Community Transit as we prepare for light rail to reach Snohomish County later this year. Starting on March 30, you’ll have more travel options in Snohomish County, better transit connections across the region, and more bus service in your area.

Route 116 (Silver Firs – Edmonds) is being eliminated and will be replaced with new bus routes starting March 30. This means if you currently ride Route 116, you will need to take a new route to reach your destination.

Route 166 (Silver Firs - Edmonds)

Route 116 and Route 196 are being combined into the new Route 166. On Route 166, the bus will travel on the same path as Route 116 from Silver Firs through Mill Creek, until it reaches the Alderwood Mall. The bus will then stay on Alderwood Mall Pkwy and travel the same path as Route 196, with a stop at Lynnwood Transit Center on its way to downtown Edmonds.

Route 114 (Aurora Village - Lynnwood)

For travel along 200th St SW, 68th Ave. W near Edmonds College, 208th St. SW, 72nd Ave. W, and 212th St SW, riders will use the new Route 114.

Route 102 (Edmonds - Lynnwood)

For travel along Main and Dayton streets in Edmonds, use the new Route 102. Route 102 also continues east along a new path on 212th St SW.

Faster and more frequent service

Your bus will come more often! Routes 102, 114, and 166 will operate all day with buses running every 30 minutes during peak travel hours on weekdays.

Planning your trip

  • You can use Maps & Schedules to see the March 2024 preview schedule for your route. Click on "Preview these new schedules here” in the gray box on the upper left side of the page.
  • You can use Plan My Trip and set the departure or arrival date to March 30 or later to see what the route options for your trip will be.   

Prepare for the March 30 service change

Major service changes are happening on March 30 and again in August of 2024. The best way to prepare yourself for these changes is to learn about how they will affect you.
