About Monroe
Monroe is located at the confluence of the Skykomish, Snohomish, and Snoqualmie rivers near the Cascade foothills, about 30 miles northeast of Seattle. Its population was estimated to be 20,209 in 2021.
The city's largest employer is the Washington State Department of Corrections, which operates the Monroe Correctional Complex and provides more than 1,100 jobs. Other large employers include the Monroe School District, the Cadman quarry, the Evergreen State Fair, EvergreenHealth Monroe, and large retailers.
Popular destinations include its 14 parks — including Al Borlin Park and Lake Tye Park. Monroe also has 14 miles of multi-use pedestrian and bicycle trails that connect neighborhoods and parks.
People traveling to and from the area can choose from multiple routes served by Community Transit buses, DART paratransit service, and Vanpool.
Monroe also has a privately owned airfield, First Air Field, located adjacent to the Evergreen State Fairgrounds.

Kick off your holidays at the fall market and food drive to benefit HopeLink. Featuring local women and BIPOC-owned small businesses, makers, artisans, and crafters. Come enjoy a curated collection of gifts, along with snacks and apple cider. There will also be games and activities for kids.
No charge for entry, but there is a suggested donation of a nonperishable food item to be donated to HopeLink. Each nonperishable item donated earns an entry into a prize raffle. Swag bags for the first 50 guests (one per family).
Veterans Day Parade and Commemorative Ceremony – Mill Creek

Join us in honoring those who have served. Community Transit will have a bus in this patriotic event with veterans, military and high school bands, color guards, vintage military vehicles, community groups, and wholesome family fun. Bring a chair and arrive early to secure your spot on the parade route. This event is outdoors so check the weather and dress appropriately.
Later that day, at 5 p.m., poppies will be handed out at a commemorative ceremony at nearby Library Park to remind the community of the sacrifices and continuing needs of our veterans.
Family fun before the feast - Arlington

Proceeds from this event go to the Arlington Community Food Bank. “Come enjoy some old-fashioned community fun and get your steps in before your Thanksgiving meal this year,” invited Arlington City Councilmember and Community Transit board chair Jan Schuette. “Visit Arlington this Thanksgiving to start a new tradition. Take the bus, and you won’t need to think about parking.”
Festival of Trees lights up holiday season – Mill Creek

A new event enhances the traditional holiday lineup in Mill Creek this year. The city has partnered with Mill Creek Town Square merchants to create The Festival of Trees.
Volunteers will form a festive and welcoming atmosphere along Main Street. Expect to see snowy tree scenes, festive lights, and a unique contest with prizes. Visitors will discover cute woodland creatures hiding among the trees for people of all ages to find through January 1.
