Zip Shuttle makes travel in Snohomish County easier

Get where you need to go around town, whether it's running to get groceries, getting to medical appointments, commuting to work, or participating in social and community activities. Zip gives you the freedom to go for the same price as our local bus fare, $2.50 or less per ride.

Zip Shuttle is currently available in the Alderwood area. Take Zip to the mall, movies, rec center, to run errands, and to connect to our bus services and Lynnwood City Center Station.

How to book a ride with Zip Shuttle Alderwood 

When you're ready to go somewhere within our Alderwood service area, book a ride with Zip Shuttle for a quick and easy trip.

Book a ride by calling (425) 521-5600 or via the GOIN' app (Apple App, Android App). Confirm your pick-up and drop-off location within the Alderwood service area (see our map).

We’ll be on our way

Once we confirm your ride, we’ll be on our way to pick you up. Please be prepared and outside at the curb when your Zip vehicle arrives. Look for the blue and white Community Transit Zip vehicle. 

Similar to taking other Community Transit services, you may be riding with other passengers on Zip. There may be other passengers on board the vehicle when it arrives to pick you up, or other passengers may be picked up after you’ve started your trip.

Sometimes plans change. Zip's flexible and convenient service makes canceling easy. If you need to cancel your ride, do so as early as possible to keep the service zipping along for other riders. Please be aware that cancellations and no-shows may affect your ability to book future rides. See our cancellation policy for details.

Connect to light rail with Zip

The Lynnwood Link Extension brings light rail to Snohomish County! Customers can ride Zip Shuttle Alderwood to Lynnwood City Center Station to connect to light rail.

  • You can take Zip to connect to Link light rail. Zip drops off at the designated spot for Zip and DART paratransit, just outside of the light rail station south entrance. Or connect to Swift Orange Line and other busses.

About Zip

Zip Shuttle Alderwood was a one-year pilot, designed with assistance from community members to help make getting around the area easier. Throughout the pilot period, Community Transit gathered public feedback to develop this program into a travel option that meets the community's needs. The Lynnwood community provided overwhelming support for the service during a public engagement period that occurred from August 3 – September 7, 2023, with 94% of respondents supporting the service and its continuation past pilot period. On October 5, 2023, the Board of Directors approved for Zip Shuttle Alderwood to continue as a regular service for Community Transit.

Every Zip Shuttle ride is the same fare as a local bus fare from Community Transit:

  • Adult fare is $2.50 per person per ride
  • Reduced fare of $1.25 available with ORCA LIFT (based on income qualification) or Reduced Fare Permit (senior and disabled persons)
  • Youth 18 and under ride free

Zip Shuttle Alderwood service is available every day between 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
When you’re ready to go, you can book a ride by calling (425) 521-5600 or via the GOIN' app on Apple or Android devices.
Pay ahead or pay when you board. Pay when you board with your ORCA card or cash. Or pay with a debit or credit card when booking your ride via phone or app. When paying with cash, exact fare is required. When paying with ORCA, each rider must have their own card and must show their card to the driver when boarding. The GOIN' Wallet on our app is not set up to accept ORCA at this time.
No, Zip is an on-demand service, which means you book your ride when you're ready to go.

If you no longer need your requested Zip trip, please cancel by hitting the “Cancel” button in the GOIN’ app or by calling (425) 521-5600 if you booked your trip by phone. Please take a moment to review the Zip cancellation and no-show policies and help keep Zip moving fast for everyone.

Our vehicles can pick up and drop off riders within our Zip Alderwood service area at any point where it is safe to do so.

When booking your ride, you will confirm the address or name of the locations you would like to be picked up and dropped off. The driver will stop at the nearest safe location for the vehicle and for allowing passengers on and off the vehicle.
Once you book and confirm a ride, you will receive notifications when your ride is on the way and once it has arrived at the pick-up location.
Once you book and confirm a ride, you will receive the license plate information of the vehicle coming to pick you up. The vehicles are also labeled with the Community Transit logo, blue and white colors, and Zip shuttle name. You will see “Community Transit Zip Shuttle” across the top of the vehicle windshield in blue lettering.
Please let us know when booking your ride how many riders will be traveling. Note that the largest vehicle can seat up to 6 riders. Passengers aged 18 and younger ride free. If using ORCA, each passenger must have their own ORCA card for fare payment.

The parent or guardian of the child must provide the appropriate safety seat that works with the lap or seat belts on Zip vehicles. Riders are responsible for securing any such safety seat and for ensuring that it fits all legal requirements.

Children under age 10 must be accompanied and supervised by a responsible adult while on Zip service. Riders age 13 and older may be sufficiently mature enough to supervise younger children in certain circumstances. Please let us know when scheduling your trip if any riders are 18 or younger, as youth ride transit free.
If booking the ride through the app, you will have the option of selecting an ADA accessible vehicle. If calling to book your ride, please let the customer service rep know about your mobility device.
Yes. These items should fit on your lap or on floor in front of you and not interfere with other passengers.
Zip is a service provided by Community Transit, your local public transit agency. To remain in compliance with public agency and union agreements, our drivers cannot accept gifts or tips, but we always welcome your feedback about your experience with your driver. The service area for Zip Alderwood was determined with the help from Lynnwood residents and community working group. The service area covers the most frequently preferred destinations within the Lynnwood area.

Community Transit will continue to take customer feedback regarding the service area for Zip. Any future service expansions will be considered during Community Transit service change evaluations.

Like taking other Community Transit services, you may be riding with other passengers on Zip. There may be other passengers on board the vehicle when it arrives to pick you up, or there may be other passenger pick-ups after you’ve started your trip. Those passengers may be dropped off before or after you.

The app will combine trips for efficiency when customers are traveling from nearby locations and to nearby destinations. 

This allows us to serve more customers, reduce wait times, and is more sustainable than solo trips.

Shared rides may add time to your trip, but can help you get picked up faster when the system is busy.
The Zip driver will update you as shared rides happen while on board. If you use the GOIN’ app to book your trips, the app will also notify you that another customer is about to be picked up or dropped off. If you use the call center to book your trips you can request text notifications for shared trip updates.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, service or guide animals are allowed on all Community Transit buses and Zip Shuttle. Some pets and non-service animals are allowed to ride with a Community Transit rider with some rules. Cancellation and No-Show policies

To help Zip serve more customers and reduce wait times, a new cancellation and no-show policy is now in effect. Please take a moment to review these rules and help keep Zip moving fast for everyone.

Cancellations:

  • If you no longer need your requested Zip trip, please cancel by hitting the “Cancel” button in the GOIN’ app or by calling (425) 521-5600 if you booked your trip by phone.
  • If you cancel a Zip trip in the GOIN’ app within five minutes of requesting it, there will be a two-minute pause before you can book a trip through the app again.
  • If you cancel a Zip trip in the GOIN’ app after five minutes of requesting it, or you cancel a trip for a second time in the same day, there will be a 15-minute pause before you can book a trip through the app again.
  • If you cancel a Zip trip in the GOIN' app for a third time in the same day, there will be a 24-hour pause before you can book through the app again.
  • You can still book a ride during a GOIN’ app pause by calling (425) 521-5600.

No-Shows:

  • If a Zip vehicle arrives at your requested pick-up location and cannot find you after 5 minutes and attempting to reach you by phone, you will be marked as a No-Show.
  • If you have two No-Shows within a seven-day period, you will be paused from booking through the GOIN’ app for 24 hours. You can still book a ride by phone by calling Zip at (425) 521-5600.
